Going for it...or at least trying.
Last week when I shared my aspirations of being a professional photographer with the social media world, I was a little nervous. Blogging feels more vulnerable than I thought it would. I was not expecting the love and support that came my way from family and friends. Much appreciated. In fact, I felt so loved and so supported that I was all βOH MY GOD I CAN REALLY REALLY DO THIS.β For me, the process of dreaming has always been big. No time for little dreams. So naturally, I picked out paint for my office (benjamin moore, revere pewter), scoured craigslist for an antique french provincial writing desk and had my tufted swivel chair in my shopping cart on wayfair. Ya know, for days when I work from home on my part-time non-existent professional photography business. Also - donβt have an office either. Weβre working with an 800 square foot one bedroom up in here. Maybe I got a little ahead of myself...
Throughout the week, I was set on finding a couple or family to shoot for todayβs blog post. Since I am going to try to post every Tuesday, I had big dreams for this post too. Luckily, sanity and patience washed over me mid-week. I was still familiarizing myself with my camera. It had been a while since my Nikon and I had hung out together and since I am focused on not shooting anything in auto and very limited use of flash, I needed to practice the technical aspect of photography and get used to changing my shutter and aperture without looking down. Easier said than done.
For this week, I focused on shutter speed, ISO, aperture and overall position of light. Luckily, I was in LBI for the weekend and had a few opportunities for practice. The light is always the prettiest during the golden hour at the shore but actual human photo opportunities were limited. My husband was kind enough to stand in when I found a really pretty backdrop but was being terrorized by mosquitos. He was not having it (documented below). Kath was all βdonβt take my picture.β BUT - the ducks and the beagle were nice enough to let me photograph them. The flowers were lush and camera ready and my old DSLR that I bought with my babysitting money over 10 years ago is my friend again. And I gotta say, it feels good.
While itβs not the beautiful couple in high grass with a golden sunset in the backdrop, itβs progress. Itβs me practicing. Itβs me saying βIβm going for it...or at least trying.β
